Electronics Gadgets Developments: Can 4G Transform The Shape Of Worldwide Mobile Computing?

Technology seems to be developing faster than ever these days, especially when it comes to wireless technology and broadband networks. 3G has only just been rolled out through much of the developed world and there is already talk of the LTE or Long Term Evolution protocol, better recognized as broadband.

However, this is happening despite the fact that current 3G or third generation wireless technologies have only penetrated only 14 percent of the world's 5.12 Billion mobile phone subscribers. The quantity of 3G subscribers is growing a little over 50 million a month as of September of 2010, much of which are attributed to the deployment of 3G in newer markets such as China, India and Brazil.

Snowballing demand for faster upload and download speeds and larger bandwidth capacities are probably behind this push that could change the manner we perceive technology forever.

The War Between The Standards

The evolution of mobile phone standards is categorized based on the download and upload rates for data transfer. The present technology in wide distribution right now is 3G which is short for the third generation of wireless communication technologies. 3G provides quicker transfer rates not only for voice signals but also for non-voice data allowing multimedia applications such as video telephony to be used more realistically.

But once 3G technologies are rolled out, new releases in the technology followed suit including HSDPA or High-Speed Downlink Packet Access or what is also known as 3GPP release 5 and HSUPA or 3GPP release 6. In due course, these protocols are also being upgraded to HSPA or High Speed Packet Access. HSPA can be used for most GSM frequencies giving users more flexibility and universal roving capabilities.

The world has just begun to see the wonders HSPA is bringing and here comes another upgrade in the form of LTE or Long Term Evolution. With another technology called WiMax, LTE is considered the 4G or fourth generation of wireless technologies. It's architecture is focused on Internet Protocol (IP) and is designed to facilitate easier Internet access through cellular phones and alternative mobile devices.

TeliaSonera was the first to make LTE available to the public in Stockholm and Oslo but prior to that the European Commission made announcements that it will induct much in the investigation and development of LTE and 4G systems. The United States plans to follow suit with MetroPCS, Verizon and AT&T made similar pronouncements to convert their networks to 4G.

Now, there is still a scarcity of LTE-enabled devices but among these include tablet PCs and other portable computers. These tablets and netbooks have dual mode capabilities and can run on both HSPA and LTE networks. As more and more networks continue to shift towards these new 4G technologies, it would be a wise decision for you as a reseller to focus your investments towards devices designed with these technologies in mind.

Enter the Tablet

One device that you should set your eyes on as an online reseller is the tablet personal computer. A portable computer with a touchscreen as its main input device, tablets provide the mobility of mobile phones and the power of laptops in one stylish device. It is different from a personal computer in the implication that it has no tangible keyboard but uses an onscreen virtual alternative. Tablets also use low-powered hardware components and are not designed for use with demanding power applications.

Unlike smartphones, tablet PCs are also not mobile phones although they are designed for Internet and local network connection. Tablets have built in Wi-Fi capabilities as well as 3G / 4G connectivity. This enables the tablet to connect to the internet through any hotspot or if this is not to be had can connect through the mobile 3G/4G network at extra costs. Tablets are preferred by people who want to access the Internet on the go but are not content with the small screen and contained capabilities of smartphones.

Nevertheless, later and newer models of tablets will be designed as a complete communications solution and will have the same functionality and features as mobile phone handsets using interchangeable 3G or 4G connectivity capabilities. More and more people are into online streaming video even while on the go and tablets using the faster LTE network would be the perfect device to provide them with such capabilities - as well as make phone calls.

Right now the tablet trade is occupied by a few original equipment manufacturers such as the Apple iPad and Samsung's Galaxy tablet. People who are looking for alternative devices from China might find a wind variety of products available such the APads or ePads or similar variations using Google's Android system.

There might still be some problems with 3G or 4G connectivity with these Chinese products as these standards are just beginning to take off in new markets such as China and India. As a reseller, you should be well vigilant of this existing limitation and should carefully ask about the 3G or 4G capabilities of these devices particularly with regards to their operating frequencies. However, with the rate of development China-made products are being churned out, it would just be a matter of months before full pledged 3G and 4G tablets with the same functionality and features as branded ones will be made available in the market.

The Galaxy of the Tablet

A tablet can be defined as a complete personal mobile computer that is larger than the average mobile phone or PDA, but smaller than the average laptop or notebook. It is basically an entire computer shrunk into a flat computer screen with the keyboard and mouse replaced with touchscreen functionality.

One of the key features of a tablet is the fact that it is mostly or fully finger driven and uses a multi-touch capacitive touchscreen instead of a simple resistive touchscreen which is a stylus driven system.

Operating the touchscreen of the tablet allows more integrated hand-eye operation and co-ordination, and is a more direct form of control. You directly point and touch the object you wish to select on the screen as opposed to moving an external mouse in order to move a cursor on the screen to the object. It therefore allows for a more natural user interface than a normal PC which uses a command line interface or mouse driven interface. A virtual keyboard is normally used to do any typing required by the user. When the quantity of typing work to be done is substantial, an external detachable keyboard can be used so that it can easily be converted into a notebook computer. The keyboard is attached to the touchscreen by a swivel or slide joint, and is usually propped up either by its cover or a detachable stand pin.. The touchscreen can also be used to do handwriting recognition when using a stylus, and is used in particular with Chinese, Japanese and Korean writing where symbols are used instead of characters to form words and ideas.

The multi-touch capability of the touchscreen allows multiple simultaneous finger touches to be recognized. This allows for interactive object manipulation. One common use for this function is as a zoom in/out function, where a pinch outwards zooms in, and an inward pinch zooms out, as if shrinking and stretching the screen with your fingers.

An important aspect of a tablet is its size. They mostly vary between 5-11 inches, depending on the model and manufacturer. One of the most important things to consider when choosing a tablet is choosing the correct size for its use. If you intend to carry it around in a handbag, then smaller would obviously be better (also depending on the size of the handbag). If it is to stay at home or travel in a briefcase, then bigger is maybe better. If its main use is to watch videos, live TV and view pictures, then bigger is definitely best. If it is to do more web browsing and more "work" than play, then size would not be the deciding factor, but price.

Other features of modern tablets include a accelerometer, ambient light and proximity sensors, a storage drive, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, and a USB port.

Accelerometer: An accelerometer is a device that can detect physical movement. In the tablet it is used mainly to detect the orientation of the tablet (portrait or landscape) and as a tilt sensor.
Ambient light and proximity sensors: The ambient light sensor measures the ambient or surrounding light intensity and adjusts the display brightness accordingly. The proximity sensor can detect when an object is close to it. This has been used with the new iPad 2 to automatically lock the screen when the cover is closed.
Storage drive: This is the memory part of the tablet where data and applications are stored. It usually consists of internal flash memory, and ranges vary according to model and manufacturer.
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi enables the tablet to connect to a wireless network as long as it is in range. Wi-Fi hotspots are common in airports and coffee shops in larger cities around the world, and allow mostly free internet browsing.
Bluetooth: Bluetooth is also a wireless technology that allows the exchange of data over short distances. It is used in tablets mostly to transfer data from one device to another.
3G: 3G enables internet connectivity even when not in range of a Wi-Fi network. This is an important feature if you live in a place where Wi-Fi hotspots are not readily available.
USB port: A USB port allows USB devices (like wireless headphones, for example) to be connected to the tablet.

One of the most important elements of any tablet is its operating system (OS). The two main competitors when it comes to tablet operating systems are Apple iOS and Google Android. Although the Apple App Store provides more than enough apps for its iPad and iPad 2, you can only install apps approved by them. It is described as a "closed fence" system. On the other hand, Android is more generic, and almost anybody can write an app for them. Both systems, however, have their own pro's and con's.

So what exactly do you do with a tablet? Well, just to give you an idea, here is a list.

Web browsing
Send and receive e-mails
Watch video's
Watch live internet TV
View pictures
Read e-books
Use as a GPS
Use as a digital picture frame
Use as a cookbook
Play music and streaming audio
Read newspapers
Play games
Do social networking
And many more...

A tablet can therefore replace a DVD-player, a GPS, a digital picture frame, an eReader / Kindle, MP3 player/iPod and a PSP or hand-held gaming device, all in one. Pretty nifty, don't you think?

But replacing all these gadgets doesn't come cheap, and most high-end tablets from leading brands can be quite expensive. If you are considering buying a tablet, don't be blinded by all the hype surrounding these brands. If you've got the money, then go for the iPad 2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab because they really are great products. If, however, you are a little more careful with your spending, then do your homework. Apple and the iPad isn't everything. There are a lot of Android tablets that can hold their own and are also worth considering.

So that is the galaxy of the tablet explored on the surface. For further explorations of this and other gadget galaxies, visit my blog at http://grannysgadgetguide.blogspot.com.

NionCom Announces Introduction of the MemoryKick Vision Tablet With an Embedded Projector

Today, NionCom announces the official introduction of the MemoryKick? Vision? tablet, a device for media management, business productivity, and gaming applications. The Vision? tablet is an extension of the MicroVision Arrow? mini-tablet shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early-January. They both share many components and features.

The MemoryKick? Vision? is designed to be the ultimate productivity tool. A user can load all their business documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ImageAMMO?), photos, and videos on one device for use anywhere. Files can be rapidly transferred between several storage locations. The Vision? has the capacity to store hundreds of hours of video due to the fact that it has a 500GB to 1TB hard drive, depending on the configuration. In either case, this is remarkably more storage than can be found on devices such as the iPad and the like. These competing devices use very costly flash memory, limiting them to about 64GB of storage or less - barely enough to store a couple HD-quality movies.

The MemoryKick? Vision? allows easy connectivity to a television via its HDMI port. Not only can a user watch stored video and photos, but the entire operating system. This means that surfing the internet, gaming, and any apps can all be experienced on a large screen. This is a feature unique to the Vision? tablet. Other tablets and mobile phones simply can't do this.

A generous 4.3" capacitive touch screen allows for easy management of files, browsing the internet, gaming, and access to many unique applications. The Vision? tablet also includes applications for streaming live television content through Wi-Fi connectivity. Even VOIP-based phone calls can be made on the device. In addition, an embedded laser projector provides the flexibility for viewing content anywhere - with no need to focus. Whatever is being displayed on the screen can be projected for a large, immersive experience. The Vision? tablet packs all the functionality of a laptop - and more - into a small, ultra-portable device.

High Level Specs:

Android 2.2 operating system

5MP Camera / 720p Video Record (Shoot & Project Anytime, Anywhere!)

Embedded laser pico projector (with PicoP technology by MicroVision)

HDMI Out: 1080p (play all your digital movies and videos)

HDMI In 720p (connect and project from a computer, iPod, or Android device)

Bluetooth to connect Bluetooth speakers, keyboard, and mouse

Wi-Fi

VOIP

Accelerometer

HDD with capacities of up to 1TB

Multi-Memory Transfer capability between the HDD, Micro-SD, SD, and USB)

Interactive Touch Projection

Dimensions: Length: 142mm; Width 78mm; Height 27mm

Difference between Arrow? mini-tablet and the Vision?:

Arrow?: 3.5 inch 800 x 480 Full View Angle Screen, 4GB Internal Flash Memory; with Micro-SD Card, USB with multi-transfer capability

Vision?: 4.3 inch 800 x 480 Full View Angle Screen, 500GB 2.5 inch HDD; with Micro-SD, SD, and USB insert and multi-transfer capabilities.

Anthony Link, CEO of NionCom states that the inspiration for the Vision? tablet came as the result of a discussion he had with a customer. The customer suggested that it would be nice to have a built-in projector to view content in a larger format. Immediately seeing the potential of the concept, NionCom surveyed the various technologies for projecting from a small device. After familiarizing themselves with the available options, they decided on MicroVision's PicoP technology, where a single mirror and three lasers create the images by "painting" each pixel in a raster-scan pattern. In his own words, Anthony states that "MicroVision has the best technology" for what they are trying to accomplish - projecting beautiful images from a compact device with no need to focus. In addition, he stresses the scalability of the PicoP platform. The ability to move to 720p resolution and beyond while also shrinking the display engine is a critical need for future products. None of the competing technologies can achieve higher performance without sacrificing size and power consumption.

As opposed to simply adding a projector to their existing MemoryKick? Si product, NionCom realized the importance of having unique applications that would take full advantage of a highly-flexible device with capacity for storing lots of data. By partnering with ImageAMMO? and ThinkFree, for example, NionCom has ensured they could deliver on this goal.

ImageAMMO? is a unique application. Essentially, it allows users to easily organize, share, and present photos and presentations in a virtual three-dimensional environment. Taking advantage of the embedded projector, users can display their content in a large format and manipulate the sets of images by rotating and interacting with the various shapes. Users can also create their own photo sets (called 'WRAPPERS') with ImageAMMO? and share with others. Anyone can then read the wrappers using the actual ImageAMMO? app for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch) or the free ImageAMMO? 'PLAYER', available on their site.

Trey Ratcliff, the HDR photographer of StuckInCustoms.com and developer of the very impressive 100 CAMERAS IN 1 (his new app for iOS devices on iTunes) has provided ImageAMMO? with photos that are WRAPPED for your enjoyment. His images have been seen more than 50 million times, ImageAMMO? is available in a home version for Mac and PC, as well as an Apple iOS app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. ImageAMMO? will be available for other Android devices as well.

ThinkFree is an office productivity tool that allows users to view and share MS Office files with colleagues. To take it one step further, NionCom worked with ThinkFree to customize the application to enhance the user experience when using an embedded projector. One example of this is allowing users the ability to quickly reverse the color palette on presentations, making text easier to read on the projected slides.

It is unique applications such as these that further differentiates the Vision? from all other devices on the market.

NionCom didn't stop there. By working with high-end game developers, the MemoryKick? Vision? tablet will have a rich multimedia gaming experience, with high-quality graphics. Even better, these games can be played on a large television or projected up to 100" for the ultimate immersive experience.

The MemoryKick? Vision? tablet is expected to be available in Q2 2011, priced in the mid-$500 range, available worldwide and at prominent retailers in the United States. The Vision? tablet offers a multitude of unique features that we will describe in follow-up articles. So, stay tuned for more details and photos of the device, coming soon!

Tips on Purchasing a Home Theater Entertainment Center

What is a Home Theater System?

Buying a "Home Theater in a Box" system makes it easier for the novice customer to purchase matching speakers and audio components to include instructions for easy setup. With todays systems, everything is supplied to quickly setup and operate a great Home Audio system in almost minutes! Prices on these systems vary greatly depending on features ,complexity and brand. Chances are you may prefer a certain manufacturer, and may want use it as a starting point for your speaker search.

Do some research before you buy

Check out websites that offer Home Theater System reviews. The best investment you can make when buying a system is spending some time researching "editor" and "user reviews". I've found that users can be very candid and descriptive when commenting on a system they have purchased. Discovering the "Pros and Cons" of a product can be very helpful when deciding on a system.

One other source I've found valuable are electronics "forums". Many forum sites are popping up on just about any subject you can think of. I recommend finding an active forum and joining in on the discussions. Not only can you get more users reviews, but you can also participate and ask questions about a particular audio product that you may have in mind. The best thing is almost all of these discussion boards are free!

Planning the location

Although many Home Theater Systems are fairly compact, some high end systems can be fairly large. Check the space you plan on locating your system. One mistake many buyers make is not pre -planning the location of the system that the components use. In addition to space, check to see that electrical connections are adequate to power your unit. Never attempt to over load wall power outlets by adding excessive power strips to power your audio and video components. If needed, relocate some of the other electrical devices to help solve power problems.

Shopping for the System

Shop in person at the local dealer to sample the sound of the system. Large Electronic Dealers now have special rooms that duplicate the home acoustics of a customers living room or bedroom. Listen carefully to the speakers when you shop. The typical home system has six speakers that make up the ideal home theater and are as follows: left and right front-channel speakers, left and right surround speakers, a subwoofer, and a center-channel speaker. Most important is the center-channel speaker, as most movie dialogue comes from it. Taking the time to listen to the system in this environment can be the most valuable experience you can have. Don't be a spur of the moment shopper when buying a home Theater System. The time and effort that you make in choosing a system can be rewarding your years to come.

The LG Optimus 2X - The World's Fastest Phone

All to often a new mobile phone release is a similar specification device to other models, with perhaps a catchy new feature or a slightly different look. The new LG Optimus 2X is a different breed however, a handset that breaks boundaries and pushes the limits. The result is the first dual core mobile phone, and one capable of full HD 1080P video recording as well.

The key point about this latest model is its overall speed. This obviously affects all areas of the phone, and ultimately determines with the general user experience is good or not. Thanks to dual core technology, this is the fastest model you are likely to find. Present in laptops and computers for a while now, the technology has filtered down to mobile phones, meaning two individual chips are present rather than just one, meaning they can handle tasks totally independently of one another, consequently not affecting performance of the phone. The 1 Ghz Nvidia Tegra 2 chip has been used before in Toshiba tablet devices. Maintaining this high specification, the Optimus 2X also incorporate a powerful graphics chip, enabling it to support movies shot in 1080P HD. Thanks to a new system known as HDMI mirroring, the device can stream content to a DNLA compatible TV without any wires. This is impressive as footage of this resolution is rarely streamed without major compression resulting in loss of picture quality. The model can accept all manner of video file formats including MP4 and WMV, and thanks to its Dolby mobile sound enhancement it is as good a phone as you will find for using as a Movie player. Storage wise the model is supplied with 8GB of internal capacity, with the option to extend this up to 32GB thanks to a micro SD card slot.

The LG Optimus 2X is shipped with version 2.2 of the Android operating system. With 2.3 actually released now, this may disappoint many users however the system is easily upgradable. The multiple homescreen layout looks superb on the high resolution screen, which gives a 480 x 800 quality with up to 16 million colours. As a music player the handset performs admirably. A wide range of music file formats can be accepted which include MP3, WMA and eAAC+, and the 3.5mm headphone jack socket means a wide range of headphones can be used to enjoy your audio files. The device also includes Dolby mobile sound enhancement to further improve the audio playback. The phone features an 8 mega pixel main camera and a 1.3 mega pixel front facing unit, making this a versatile multi media unit as well as a superb phone in general.

The LG Optimus 2X combines the established Android platform with cutting edge features resulting in a very special handset.

The LG Optimus 2X and the Motorola Bravo are coming soon.

Home Audio Systems

When choosing a home audio system, you will come across many options. Due to this fact, making a sound decision can become overwhelming and confusing. Without some first hand knowledge of how home audio systems are put together it is doubtful that you will end up with the best audio system for your money. It would be beneficial to do a bit a research before venturing out to that electronics store for the very first time. Here are some tips and strategies that may be helpful in your quest for the perfect home audio system.

When building an audio system you will have a choice of different components related to the system. Some of the components you are able to choose from would be a amplifier, a tuner, a hi-fi CD player, a turntable, a cassette deck, possibly a DVD player, video cassette recorder, a laser disc or a mini disc recorder as well. Though some of these components are outdated and may not be as popular as others, they are still used on occasion depending upon your personal preference. One of the most important components out of that list would be the hi-fi CD player. When choosing what CD player to purchase you will have a choice of many different brands and features. A few consumer grade Hi Fi CD Players include NAD, JVC, Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sharp, Aiwa, and RCA. These are durable, popular brands for the consumer and are usually moderately priced. There are other brands that are considered on the high end of hi-fi CD players. Some of these brands include Harmon Kardon, Onyko, Denon, Carver and a few others. These are on the higher scale when speaking of price and are usually purchased for professional use or for someone who is well versed on electronics.

If you have found a brand of CD player for your home audio system that you are interested in, make sure that the system includes the features you may be interested in also. There are CD players that also include a DVD feature, there are CD systems that also record, there are CD changers that will accommodate more than one CD, some hold up to 500 CDs, and most if not all Hi Fi CD Players will include a remote control with the system. Some other features that may be included but are a lot less common than a remote would be music calendar, headphone jack with a volume control, and a fader just to name a few. An important feature that you do want to make sure is included with your hi-fi CD player is an optical output. An optical output carries a digital signal instead of a typical analog sound. You will have limited background noise and enjoy a much better sound with the optical output vs. the analog sound.

Now that you have a bit of insight on the world of home audio systems and Hi Fi CD Players, you can make a better and more informed decision than if you did not have the information that was covered here. Remember to ask questions and if you do not understand something at first explanation ask that it be explained again. Most people don't realize just how involved a purchase like this is, but you should feel more confident now that you have some background on the subject. Take your time, choose wisely and you will be enjoying your new home audio system for a long time to come.

Onkyo 608 - A Home Theater Star

When purchasing a home theater, don't stop at just a big-screen HDTV and a DVD or Blu-Ray player. You're not going to have a truly great cinema experience until you have a great surround-sound audio system. That's more than just a strong bass sub-woofer; you'll also want multiple speakers to envelope you in the audio experience.

The Onkyo 608 fits the bill nicely, offering the audio quality and long list of features you'd expect only in much more expensive units. It's still called a "receiver" from the old stereo tradition where the audio amplifier featured an AM/FM receiver. This Onkyo receiver adds audio surround-sound processing, video switching, and a lot more.

5.1 + 3 = 7.2?

You're may be familiar with 5.1 channel audio systems. They add 4 more speakers beyond the old stereo systems, for a total of 6 speakers. Starting with the 2 stereo speakers, add a center-speaker for a more solid sound. Then two (left and right) more speakers in the rear behind the listener so they're surrounded by sound. Finally add a sub-woofer for power at the really low frequencies so important to movie special effects. Now you have a 5.1 channel surround-sound system.

A 7.2 channel system adds 3 more speakers. First, there's a second sub-woofer. Now the really low stuff is in true stereo. The other 2 speakers are usually used as extra-wide speakers in the front for an even bigger cinema effect. With a 7.1 channel system, you don't get the second sub-woofer.

The Onkyo SR608 can also process the audio for placing the 2 additional speakers higher up in the front for a more 3-dimensional effect. Or (with the 608) you can use those speakers as a stereo in another room. You can even feed them a separate audio source than that of the main room. Yep, the 608 can feed 9 speakers, with several different options.

Audiophile Sound

This home theater audio system isn't just for movies and games. It also receives very positive reviews and comments for it's sound quality and power - 100 watts per channel (though a bit over 700 watts total).

It's also packed with audio processing capabilities. It features Dolby TrueHD, and can even improve the sound from MP3 and other compressed sources. The Onkyo 608 can automatically adjust equalization to precisely tune the sound to your particular room, and even includes a microphone. It can also automatically adjust tone for different volumes.

Audio-Video Switching

With receivers like the 608, you no longer need switchers or converters to connect all the components of your home theater. With 6 HDMI inputs, you should be able to handle as many digital video and audio sources you're ever likely to have. Plus video and audio get switched together with a single remote-control command.

All video inputs are converted to 1080p resolution for the best viewing and no resolution changes when you switch sources. This isn't flawless, however. If you're watching slower video, such as the 30 frames-per-second you find on some cable channels, you'll get a momentary flicker if there's a data dropout on the input. The 608 doesn't process this away, although many HDTVs will do this themselves.

Summary

Despite some special-case video glitches, owners love this receiver for movies, music, gaming and more. The Onkyo 608 is a modestly priced surround-sound receiver that offers the features and quality of much more expensive equipment.

Advantages and disadvantages of buying home surround-sound systems

Apparently there are to consider a number of aspects before specific to one to settle home surround sound system. Therefore, because these systems in three different models: 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1. This means that you can choose between with as little as five speakers and less than 7. While the quality of sound varies with the number of speakers you have speakers for higher ability means, listen to customize the feel.

How come you can questions? Now, these systems broadcast more than just sound from every corner. In addition, they transferred certain sounds of exact locations. For example, if an event in a video game on the left side of the monitor takes place, are you there to listen to the left. In this way you learn sound really the same way that are what, would you, if you were in the game itself. This effect can be achieved with five speakers adequately. However, after seven speakers can you a wide sound range have, which allows for a better experience.

Of course there are other additional reasons for 5.1 home surround-sound-systems of 7.1. The Setup process can sometimes hard, as not only you need to properly link all cable with each stereo, but you have it in a way that prevents that the cables getting in the way. Many times, House and apartment owners fight because their wires are confused and disorganized and possibly span through sites on the ground, where individuals go again and again.

Fortunately there are many ways to keep your cable can be securely and safely and not in the way. Tacks hanging have successfully by many people for them on the wall was used. Another link relations away with twist the wires. There are also many home surround systems that allows for a cabin, the people of design to include "unduly protect wires, they hide".

Latest Trend in Mobile Technologies

Fast computing on mobile devices is what customers are looking for giving away to the rise of Smartphone market. Smart phones allow user to access internet, stream videos, access Wi-Fi, send mails, chat, instant message, access social networking sites and a lot more. Due to the increasing popularity for social media, the mindset of the people has also changed. All the major mobile device platform developers have introduced new operating systems for mobile devices. Introduction of android by Google, Apple iOS, Microsoft's Windows 7 for mobile devices and Symbian V3 by Nokia provided a wide range for customers to choose from.

Tablets PCs, the latest introduction to mobile computing, are also attracting the business community to a great extent. The iPad from apple introduced last year hit the market with a boom. Apple sold 7.5 million Ipad devices in first six months. Microsoft tried to sell tablets in past but failed to capture the market but apple's ipad with high resolution display and sleek design attracted millions of customers. Google keeping an eye on the mobile technology market came in partnership with Verizon wireless to launch Android 2.2 with major changes in previous versions. Android supports third party software installation developed by Google developers as well as the open source community. Android helped in bringing down the prices of smart phones under $100. Smart phones powered with android became the first priority of smart phone lovers because of its features, customization and value-for-money price. Soon, Apple launched its iphone 4G with some improvements and new features over its previous 3G release. Apple also opened its iphone platform to support third party application after three years of first product launch in this category. A formidable memory of 32 GB and free unlimited access to the iTunes store for users also helped in building a strong and loyal customer base.

The decrease in the price of data plan by GSM providers also increased the popularity of the smart phones. Thousands of little programs turned these smart phones into small gaming zones, photo editors and chatting machines. Mobile applications became the buzz of the town. This also helped companies like Google, Verizon and RIM to open their own online third party application market.

In US, Sprint and Verizon launched their first 4G handset and service this summer as wireless network moved solidly to 4G. With the introduction of 4G technology by the telecom service providers, mobile device manufactures are also introducing new compatible devices in market. Customers are looking for features like Wi-Fi, EDGE, IM, Social networking access, touch screen, qwerty keyboard in their gadgets. Application developers and device manufactures are also working on various mobile technologies to improve the security features of these devices. Chip makers, product engineering companies, and handset makers are also rolling out new security features for safe guarding emails and data access from mobile devices. Chinese smart phones, Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp are also coming up in market in near future with Google Android powered phones.

The next decade is going to be vital for mobile technologies as the potentials for mobiles are far from achieved.

Wireless Home Audio Executive Kit - An Innovation in Home Audio Systems

Electronics, particularly, audio systems have, over the years, gone through processes of development and improvement with manufacturers trying to give their consumers, the best sound that music can afford. I used to think that the Record Changer with an in-built amplifier and two speakers was the ultimate until the advent of the Sound System, comprising a turntable, a separate amplifier and two speakers. You might wish to add a separate equalizer to further synthesize and give the production of your sound system, a sharp twitter effect.

The emergence of the Cassette Player and thereafter, the Compact Disc Player, gave the music world a touch of distinction and made system operation and listening to music a delight. The booming effect of the powerful speakers of the CD player could rock the foundations of any building. Then came the Home Theater System which is currently making waves among home audio systems. While the world is yet celebrating the home theater, electronic giants recently introduced to the market, the Wireless Home Executive Kit.

The Cisco Linksys Wireless Home Audio Executive Kit is one audio electronic system, the crave for which an ardent music lover hardly can resist. It consists of one Director, a pair of wireless stereo Speakers and one IR Remote. The director has a 50-watt integrated amplifier which enables it send rich, synthesized, powerful musical sound to its speakers.

You no longer have to mess around with cables in a bid to connect your audio electronic system director to the speakers. It is wireless. The uniqueness of this wireless kit is that room partitions are no more barriers. It does not matter where you want to situate the speakers. The Linksys DMC250 director effectively delivers quality sound to its wireless stereo speakers from any location in the house. Thus, the Linksys director could be in the sitting room and the speakers placed in different locations in your house - the bedroom, the reading room, kitchen, balcony, the lobby or by the swimming pool, etc.

You need not task your brain anymore to figure out how you can pass cables around the house to different speakers either by bearing holes through the walls or knocking down wall partitions. That era was for the stone age. The Cisco Wireless Home Audio Kit has simplified matters by making it possible for you to play and control music in every room in your house through a device known as Wireless-N router. You can send different music to different rooms or the same music in all the rooms.

The Cisco director accesses the digital music libraries on your computer, network hard drive or the internet. Or you can connect it to your existing audio analog systems such as turntables, cassette decks, stereo surround sound systems or home theater receiver and still produce the same quality sound output. I recommend it to anybody who is seeking to buy the latest model in quality audio electronic gadget.

In the electronic world, you may be looking to buy home theater systems, multiroom music systems, turntables, CD players and recorders. Or perhaps you may prefer plasma TV sets, HDTVs, flat panel LCD, musical equipment set. Whatever your taste, they will be satisfied.

In-Ceiling Speaker Install - Audio Concepts B-Flat Coax 8"

This weekend I finally got around to finishing my Audio Concepts B-Flat Coax 8" in-ceiling surround speaker install. I detached the B-Flats from their ceiling mount and stuffed fiberglass insulation (the cotton candy kind, rated R13) in the cavity between ceiling joists. According to the B-Flat installation instructions and in-ceiling/wall tips elsewhere, the insulation should improve sound quality. The end result was not what I expected.

Surround satellite speakers in multi-purpose rooms have always been a problem. Where do you run the long lengths of cable? I've tried wireless speaker systems at various frequency and have never heard anything but static. You can try running your speaker cable along your baseboard or even opt for a raceway system like those sold at Cable Organizer. What if you have to jump a doorway, opening to another room or get around a large fireplace's brick façade? In-ceiling and in-wall speaker installs have the highest wife-acceptance-factor (WAF) because of their invisibility. You get to run your speaker cable inside the wall then to the attic and then back down inside a wall to the speaker.

My in-wall speaker needs first arose with the set-up of my living room home theater in my new house. I had the TV and equipment cabinet against the north wall and needed to get surround sound behind the sofa sectional on the east and west walls. To the east I needed to pass a bank of three windows to the wall area behind our chair-and-a-half. The west side was not so simple. The north end of the living room opened up to our dining room, presenting a 10 ft gap to traverse with no moulding or other architecture to hide wires behind. The living room's west wall has about six feet before the kitchen's east entrance. I could hide speaker cable along the east side's baseboard run. I could do the same on the west side if I ran the wire around the dining room, over the north kitchen entrance, then onto the baseboard of the west wall. This amounted to more cable than I was willing to buy and install.

Running in wall speaker wire through my attic looked like the best solution. Unfortunately, I have no desire to venture into the attic with its past or present wasp nest, blown in insulation and cross beam obstacle course. The trap door to the attic is in the ceiling at the south end of the house opposite the living room. I can't imagine stepping from ceiling joist to joist without putting a foot through the ceiling. Could I find a compromise between invisible in wall wiring and easy but ugly along the baseboard wire?

DeCorp Dewire is a "thinner than a business card" ribbon of speaker cable that is first glued to your wall or ceiling and then spackled, sanded and painted over for a virtually invisible cable installation. I measured the two runs to my proposed surround speaker locations on either side of the living room. I ordered the Dewire flat speaker cable, their special spray glue, spackle and banana plug and pin terminations. The Dewire would run straight up my wall, across the ceiling and the down each side wall to connect to the speakers. This the same route the in-wall attic run would make but without the attic.

After some searching of the major home electronics magazines and review sites I found little in the way affordable in-wall speaker recommendations. The Audio Asylum and AVS Forum communities pointed me toward the Audio Concepts B-Flat 8" Coaxial In-wall loudspeakers. For under $200 the B-Flat's promised performance rivaling $1000 in-walls.

After the careful purchase of the surround speakers, the invisible speaker cable and a drywall saw, I failed to ever install the speakers. Other home projects' precedence was my excuse. Really, I just dreaded the thought of gluing the cable to the wall and ceiling, and then plastering over the wire sloppily and making a mess of my wall. My lack of experience with a trowel and spackle knife paralyzed me.

Months passed. I avoided watching any movies that promised a dynamic and exciting surround mix. I was stuck with stereo. My wife and I endured one romantic comedy after another. Then everything changed.

We refinanced our house last summer including an equity line of credit. My wife got to upgrade our kitchen, hallway bathroom and lighting while I got to build a humble front projection home theater in half of our basement's rec room.

In this new home theater I could use the B-Flat in-walls as in-ceilings. An in-ceiling install rated high on the WAF scale. Electricians ran the Dewire flat speaker cable through ceiling and out through the square holes they cut for the B-Flats. I was not using the Dewire as intended (glued to a wall and hidden under spackle and paint just like a drywall seam), but I already invested nearly $200 and the Dewire does the same job as in-wall rated speaker cable.

I installed the B-Flats myself after the electricians finished the more difficult hole cutting and wire running part of the process. I simply tightened the four screw posts at each corner. The screws will rotate a clamp that catches and holds the other side of the drywall or ceiling board until tight. An electric screwdriver will speed the tightening of the long screws. You have to balance the coaxial speaker driver and surround in one hand while you tighten the four screws. The only bad part of this process was the extra heat near the ceiling. I was sweaty. I was careful not to over-tighten the screws as the clamp mechanism was all plastic and the ceiling board can easily be crushed back to ripped paper and drywall dust.

Next I calibrated with the Avia Guide to Home Theater DVD. Avia's 85 db test tones proved stressful for the B-Flats. I detected some clipping when I bumped up the surrounds' levels to reference level. The clipping is not an issue while watching a DVD or playing a video game. I never raise the volume of the Onkyo TX-DS989 AV receiver above -15 db (0 is reference). The initial calibration pushed the surround levels to +6.5 and +7 (the front stereo channels are set to +4)

After stripping out of my insulation protective gear (gloves, painter's cap, safety goggles, respirator and Tyvek cover-alls), I recalibrated the surround sound channel balance. To my surprise, the surround levels needed another decibel to reach reference level. I thought they would need less power with the insulation's damping.

Of course, I have only run the test tones through the B-Flats. I haven't had the chance to listen to any DVDs yet to see if my insulation made a difference. I am hoping what loudness I lost is gained in clarity, tonal accuracy and imaging.

Car Audio Systems

Who doesn't love to have a great sound system in their car while driving? Most people spend a lot of time in their car, so to be the most comfortable you want a sound system that suits your needs. Listening to music and driving go together like peanut butter and jelly. The two simply coexist. There are also people that are extreme sound enthusiasts, and want the best possible sound system on the market for their car. Modifying your car has always been very popular, and sound systems are among the most popular modification performed.

There are systems that are better than your factory set up no matter what your budget is. There are also plenty of professional places that sell high end products and will also install your new sound-system for you. For the most part the factory installed sound system is subpar, so naturally you are going to want to upgrade. You can upgrade step by step over time too, so you don't break the bank all at once. Maybe one time you just buy a new head unit. The next you can upgrade your speakers. After that you can go an extra step and start getting into amplifiers and subwoofers.

Sound has been a passion of people and life for a very long time. A lot of people consider their car an extension of themselves, so naturally they want to represent themselves the best they can. Having an upgraded car audio system is something that will make that daily commute in traffic to work a little better.

Home Audio Equipment and Speakers - Best Ways to Save Money While Maximizing the Quality

The average audio consumer is content to head to the nearest electronics giant super store in an effort to acquire the latest advertised best buy. Most of the time the uninitiated assumes that the selections of speakers put forth are at least good quality. Surprise, surprise!

There are many major well known brands whose commercial and pro lines are exceptionally superb. Unfortunately, much of the quality does not always crossover into home audio models. There are two avenues to explore when shopping for the good quality at the best price. Both, however, take a little extra time.

If there is a particular brand and model which has peaked one's interest, due research is recommended. The first option is to diligently search audio or speaker forums and reviews of different brands and models. Do not be afraid to join a few and ask other user's opinions on the speakers in question. Reading a few consumer magazines featuring articles about home audio speakers can be a good start as well.

The other option, which may be intimidating to most individuals, is to build a set of speakers. Do-it-yourself speaker kits are available just like do-it-yourself computer desktops. The local bookstore will usually have several good books on speaker construction. Many of these same books will provide plans for building the box or speaker enclosure. The internet, as well, has a wealth of information to provide and the price is can be free.

A word of caution: many online retailers are simply resellers. Many of these vendors do not have any experience in electronics and other audio equipment. Because of these types of "cookie cutter" merchant's lack of experience with the products with which the sell, the consumer should not expect any competent tech support or professional experience. Instead it is recommended that the shopper purchase from an online retailer who has years of experience with the electronic products that they do sell. Their experience can be a valuable tool.

Even though building a set of speakers is more time consuming than simply running out to the store and dropping hard earned cash on an overpriced set of speakers, often one can build a much better quality pair of speakers for the same amount of money or less. They key advantage of building a set of speakers is that the personal experience and skills gained from a do-it-yourself project, such as this. will be invaluable in future projects and repairs. In fact, many individual's careers

Many websites provide additional information on the topic of speaker repair and building custom speakers. One such site worth visiting is http://www.midwestspeaker.com.

iPad Killed the Photocopier

Not since the IBM PC was developed has a computer hit the market that can change the way we view the world. While people talk about Apple's Tablet PC, the iPad, being a competitor to the notebook, there are larger implications. The iPad is the first computer that can change the way we view documents. It combines the visual appeal of print and the interaction of the web together in a way no product has done before. The iPad is the first step into a paperless world where all documents are viewed as data.

In the first 28 days since its release, Apple sold one million iPads. This figure is even higher than iPhone sales when it was launched. The iPad succeeds where previous products such as Amazon Kindle have failed, but it was not greeted with universal approval when launched. "Isn't it just a big iPhone?" was the most common remark, whilst others tagged it 'iLAME'. The popular Dom Jolly mobile phone sketch has even been recreated, using the iPad. The iPad name, which Apple purchased from Fujitsu, has also been the butt of jokes on twitter, where users made fun of its resemblance to a feminine hygiene product. One twitter user posted "I am already going through 4 - 5 iPads a day due to my heavy workflow". However, Apple have a loyal following in desktop publishing with the Steve Jobs/Jef Raskin Apple Mac, and the iPad appears to be exactly what Apple fans have been waiting for.

The tablet PC has been around for a while. Bill Gates's Microsoft made the term popular in 2001 when it launched Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. HP-Compaq developed the TC1100 series. In 2007 Axiotron produced a Modbook, this was a heavily modified Apple MacBook Tablet. Frontpath manufactured a Linux based tablet called the ProGear.

The iPad is the start of a new era that will see the transition from Print to Pixels, bringing the worlds of print and web publishing together. Impressive pages can now be created using interaction, animation and video streaming. Typography and design will no longer be compromised. Notebooks don't offer the same portability of the iPad, and the iPad is the best in the field for screen based reading.

Printers and Photocopiers could become a thing of the past in a few years with less and less output to paper. Magazines, books and newspapers are set to be reinvented online. By changing how we read documents, Apple have created the next big hardware battle. Already Chinese manufactured iPad clones, working on Google's Android Software, have started to appear. Microsoft Courier is set for release soon, a 7 inch dual screen booklet that will see Microsoft making further strides into hardware manufacture following on from Zune and Xbox.

The battle for the Screen Based Reader audience is unlikely to be defined by the operating system but by the hardware itself. Imagine a iPad that is wafer thin and you can roll up and put in your back pocket like a magazine. That is what the future holds.

Flexible display technology is close to production with a team in Ireland close to a touch screen prototype. Samsung unveiled their 7 inch flexible LCD screen in 2005 and Fujitsu have a 3.8 inch flexible LCD panel that does not require a power supply. Ultimately, it's the flexible screen technology in the near future that will see users finally turn away from paper based publishing. Apple have won 'round one' of the screen based reader and have brought their product to market before Microsoft's Courier, but this hardware battle has a long way to run. Google have already produced the Nexus One, an internet mobile dubbed the Google Phone, and the Android operating system may yet enter into screen based readers as well. Amazon potentially have the most to lose if the iPad continues to grow, with Apple's iBooks directly competing with another part of their core business, following the success of iTunes, so presence in the screen reader market will be essential for Amazon.

Home Audio Equipment - Get the Home Audio Theater System You Paid For

The proper placement of your audio equipment speakers, as part of your home theater system, is an important facet of the home audio system culture. As a society, not only do we want the best equipment, we for sure want the same sound that we hear in movie theaters. You know the sound; like the chest thumping lows, and glass tinkling highs.

However, since everyone is so busy these days, most people do not take the time to set their audio equipment systems up to take advantage of all the enhanced capabilities. Or, maybe they just do not know how to maximize the output of the system they have spent dear dollars to purchase. After all, it was not a subject in school!

Get What You Pay For

The proper and accurate placement of audio speaker equipment in the home can result in the maximum enjoyment and highest quality of sound for the average home audio system owner. It is a crime of sorts that people pay many hundreds or thousands of dollars for an exceptional system, and then they invest no time or effort to get the most benefit from that system. Here are several key elements to keep in mind to gain the best sound possible from your audio equipment.

Do Your Own Thing

First, be aware that there is no one perfect setup that can be duplicated among many settings. Because of such things as room acoustics, furniture placement, personal likes and dislikes, and even the age of family members, each audio equipment setup is somehow unique. Just copying the setup your neighbor uses may not be the right thing for your home audio and visual theater.

The ultimate goal for a home theater speaker system is to duplicate the movie theater experience. With planning and design, those highly sought after characteristics can be achieved. So, the appropriate step is to create a detailed, well-thought plan for the room that will house the theater system. Various furniture placements should be explored for options. Then, a choice should be made as to the most efficient and useful room design.

Next; once the furniture plan has been prepared, then the speaker locations can be addressed. It is here that the availability of furniture placement options is so important. Some speaker placements may be more acceptable than others and being able to change plans will help decide on the best overall room setting.

Cocoon Of Sound

Keep in mind that the goal is a surround of sound. When the system speakers are well-placed, the listener will hear a complete cocoon of sound free of distinct directional impressions. Most people do not place their speakers in a proper position. Due to lack of knowledge or just lack of attention to detail, people will place their audio equipment speakers wherever they "fit" or "look good". They pay no attention to achieving the best sound.

The characteristics of sound, namely reinforcement and suppression, are directly affected by the room and all its furnishings. Therefore, the room, its occupants, the furniture, the wall coverings, and the audio equipment should all be considered components of the home audio equipment speaker system. Everything in the room should be considered part of the problem, and part of the solution.

Home Audio Furniture for Beginners

There are many choices in home furniture for a home theatre. Some choices are better for your needs than others. In order to get the best furniture to meet your needs, you should have a clear idea of what you need, seek out a reputable company, and have clear knowledge of what all options are.

The most important concept in buying furniture that many people often overlook is the idea that the furniture should be not what's best, but what is "best for you." The most expensive furniture does not always yield the highest satisfaction. However, furniture that was purchased after a well-thought-out decision will often leave the buyer with a higher degree of satisfaction. Remember, while it is a good idea to take other's opinions into consideration, the important thing is that the furniture works for you.

In order to know what you need, you should have an accurate idea of what goals you want to achieve with your home theatre system. If your goal is a state-of-the-art home theatre experience, then your furniture should reflect your systems. Comfortable chairs and high-quality tables can enhance the home theatre experience. Consider every detail, including the color of the furniture. The most appealing home theatre systems often have a color scheme that is very pleasing to the eye. Always get second opinions when deciding on colors. Depending on the type of speakers you have, you might also want to have something special to hold the speakers in. Some of the best home-theatres have surround sound. This effect can be achieved by spreading the speakers around high quality furniture. Depending on what you want, you can decide beforehand how much money you are willing to spend on your home theatre arrangement.

Additionally, before one goes to make a purchase, the layout of the room should be measured accurately. This can be done very simply with measuring tape. You could possibly mark spots on the walls where the furniture will go. It is always a good idea to draw plans and view multiple arrangements. Some furniture takes up a significantly higher amount of space than other furniture. Therefore, knowing how much room you have to work with can make the furniture choice much more efficient and enjoyable.

The final thing that you should consider before buying furniture is the company. There are lots of furniture companies out there, and some of them have lower quality furniture, and bad service. The best companies will be willing to invest their time in order to help you create the best home theatre possible. It is always a good idea to get recommendations from friends about a certain company. Some companies may offer bad advice or try to convince you to spend more money on furniture that will not best fit your needs.

Buying furniture for a home theatre can seem like an extremely daunting task. However, it can be efficient and enjoyable if you take the time to educate yourself about what options are available, what exactly you are looking for, and what are the best companies out there. Well-educated decisions are always more rewarding than decisions made with a severe lack of knowledge. If you inform yourself, your home theatre system will surely be the envy of your friends and family.

Audio Speakers - How to Test Drive a Speaker Then Buy Better Quality at Lower Prices

A good quality subwoofer is not cheap. Whether it is for the explosions a home theater surround sound system can provide or for automotive bass thumping, the aficionado can count on investing a pretty penny for good quality. Rather than pay full retail prices for that advertised "best buy", there is a better and more economical alternative.

The online world has more resources and options than any brick and mortar electronics store can possibly possess. There is more information online regarding the specifications of any pair of speakers or subwoofer than what the sales people can provide. Of course it is wise to keep one's options open by looking around in the retail stores in order to "test drive" specific speakers with the desired specifications.

Once the perfect speaker or speakers are found then comes the fun and exciting part, paying less for an even better quality speaker. Ordering a speaker from an online company which specializes in quality audio gear will yield better results. It will just take a little more time, but in the end a superior product will be enjoyed.

The truly fun part is actually customizing and building the speaker yourself. It may sound like an unusual concept, but it is a very realistic possibility. When building a speaker, one can select very specific features from wood or carbon fiber cones to crossovers and terminals. Many of the speaker companies offer speaker kits and instructions for building a better system than what is available in the overpriced electronics store.

Granted that if an individual is completely new to this type of project, calling the speaker company to ask some questions is always recommended. Knowing that the company specializes in individual parts, components and repairs should put one's concerns and hesitation to rest. Comparing this knowledge base with the kids at the electronic store is can pay off substantially.

Many times, instead of replacing a speaker, just repairing it will cut the costs down dramatically. Assuming the box is in presentable condition, the speaker may very likely be able to be repaired. Many speaker companies also sell re-foam kits, diaphragms and more. Name brand components are likely available for those that insist on using the same parts as the manufacturer of the speaker in question. That is understandable.

Do not just assume that the inventory listed on the website is the only items that are available. Special orders may be possible, but it is always recommended that calling the company will clear up any confusion and ensure the right product is ordered for the repair or replacement.
